Lyrics

Why must it come to this, ain't there eternal bliss?
Ain't there no end to it all?

Ain't there another way of living life today?
Ain't there no answers at all?

Dreamer awake from your darkness,
Dreamer awake.
Dreamer awake from your darkness,
Dreamer awake.

Tomorrow's just as kind as we will trust our minds,
Ain't you believing at all?

Too many other ways and you've got hell to pay,
|Believe in you overall.

Dreamer awake from your darkness,
Dreamer awake.
Dreamer awake from your darkness,
Dreamer awake.

Dreamer awake from your darkness,
Dreamer awake.
Dreamer awake from your darkness,
Dreamer awake.

So what does it mean?

When I was younger, in my twenties, when I wrote this sone, I often felt like I just didn't know anything about anything. I waited for a teacher. I looked for a method of living in various religions I read about. I wondered if each seemingly "together" person I ran into could help me to understand.

Understand what?

Understand why I was here on this planet. Understand what my music was supposed to be. Understand why this person who had been told all her life, "You can be anything you want to be," could not be anything important. Understand why I was gay. Understand how to make people like me. Understand how to love someone.

But I think somewhere in me I knew that the only thing I needed to understand was that I had to stop hurting myself. Only then could I begin to learn the most important lesson of all, how to love myself.
